2006 Rolex Series Update
March 2006
| The Rolex Series is known for having the shortest off-season all racing series. The 2005 season ended on November 5th and the first official event of 2006, Test Days at Daytona, kicked off on January 4th, 2006. Immediately following was the Rolex 24, which took place the last weekend in January. It goes without saying, there isn't much rest for the teams, drivers, and sponsors. With less than two months to shift gears from '05 to '06, it's a tough task for any team to pull off, especially on the sponsorship front. So far this year, Tim Stephens Racing has not announced a sponsorship deal for the '06 season which has delayed Tim's entrance into Rolex Series competition. |
| Tim reports that he is in discussions with a couple of the top Rolex GT teams to race in 2006. It is not opportunity that is lacking in this young driver's career. Rather, it is the corporate backing that is required to take on those opportunities. Racing has always been a corporate sponsorship driven sport. Sports car racing especially strives on sponsor backed drivers that bring their relationships to teams in hopes of creating a championship winning combination. This has been Tim Stephens Racing's business plan for the 2006 Rolex Series and the quest continues now after the season is underway. Tim did not participate in the Rolex 24 and will sit out the second and third rounds at Mexico City and Miami-Homestead Speedway in March. |
| The goal still remains to compete in the 2006 Rolex Series GT Championship. The target race for Tim's Rolex debut is at VIRginia International Raceway, March 20-23. TSR proudly states that the plan is in place - the team, the car, the marketing, and the eventual success. All that remains to insert into the equation is the perfect performance-driven company looking for an exciting marketing edge over their competition. |
