Immediate Release: 12 Hours at the Point Update
May 31, 2005
| The Auto Stop Racing team owned by Tom Lapham (see previous article, May 5) has been elevated to race entry status for the 12 Hours at the Point endurance race on June 4. Three days before the first on-track session, the team received news that they have been bumped into a guaranteed spot as one of the 55 cars starting the race. This announcement came after TSR unveiled the new livery of the Auto Stop Mazda RX-7. |
| "This is exciting news. We already have many hours invested into preparation for this race. The car just rolled out of our shop the other day sporting a new 'special' paint job specifically for the night time racing. The 12 Hours is the most exciting amateur sports car race there is. We sat last year out, so it's great to hear that we'll get to compete this weekend after a stressful and anxious waiting period following the new lottery system." Tim had to say following the release of the news. |
| When the car arrives at the track this Friday, it will have a brand new Mazda 13B Rotary racing engine installed along with many 'extras' specifically for the long distance race which includes 4 hours of night racing. |
| Also finalized is the driving lineup for the race. In addition to Tom Lapham, and Tim Stephens, Roland Murphy will be the third driver taking control of the RX-7 over the course of the 12 Hour race. Roland, a regular behind the wheel of an RX-7 in the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series which makes its home at Summit Point, joins Tim and Tom for the second time after the trio scored a 5th place class finish in 2003. |
